Our aim

Grace for the Girl aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA.

What we’ve done

  • A skip-to-content link on every page.
  • Semantic headings in logical order, and landmarks for the header, navigation, main content, and footer.
  • Text and interface colors checked for AA contrast on our cream, lavender, blush, and plum backgrounds.
  • Visible focus outlines on every link, button, form field, and gallery item.
  • Full keyboard operation, including the Look Inside gallery: Enter or Space to enlarge a page, ← and → to move between pages, Esc to close.
  • Descriptive alternative text on every meaningful image, and decorative artwork hidden from assistive technology.
  • Body text at a comfortable size that scales when you zoom, and touch targets at least 44 pixels tall.
  • Animation limited to gentle scroll reveals, fully disabled when your device requests reduced motion.
  • No auto-playing audio or video, and no flashing content.
  • Form fields with real labels, and clear status messages.

Known limitations

Enlarged journal pages are photographs of printed pages, so the handwriting-space text within them cannot be resized as web text. Every page is described in its alternative text and caption, and the pathway names and structure are all available as normal text on the pathways page.
